Morningside Queenslander

Our client was desperate to convert her dark dreary downstairs Ensuite into a bright uplifting feminine space. A busy working mother with four teenage boys she wanted the Ensuite to be light and colour filled, a sanctuary where she could escape, unwind and recharge. As a florist, she loves colour and wasn’t scared of being bold in her selections.

The original space was typical of a Queenslander home but dated and lacklustre. The room is east facing so lacked natural light. It was simply not an inspiring space for this hard working Mum. Being a Queenslander build pre 1946, the home falls under the traditional building overlay so we were restricted in changing too much in terms of windows and structure. Functionally it lacked bench space and there was no bath-side storage. The client was keen to get some “his and hers” separation so an additional basin was requested with corresponding storage.

The client was thrilled with the end result, a breath-taking botanical beauty, just the sanctuary she always wanted.

If you’re renovating a bathroom in a Queenslander, you may want to incorporate some of the traditional elements including subway tiles, stone benchtops, patterned tiles, VJ panelling, traditional tapware and profiled cabinetry.
